The player pages got a lot deeper
The player pages are not the pages they were last month.
There is a shot map now. It shows where a player takes his shots and how well he makes them, set against what the rest of the league does from the same places. TJ Shorts takes 40.8% of his shots in the paint, more than most players in the competition. You can see that now instead of guessing at it.
Below it is the share of shots, split by zone, with his eFG% next to the league’s.
Then a block called Defines this player: the few numbers where he sits at the very top or the very bottom of the EuroLeague. For Shorts it opens with a PIR of 20.7, the 99th percentile.
Career highs, percentiles and the season ledger are all still there. The pages just stopped hiding the interesting part.
Start from the leaders.
Who Plays Like: find any player’s closest match
This is the new one, and the one we are most pleased with.
Pick any player. It finds the players whose game is shaped like his — not who scores the same, who plays the same.
Mathias Lessort’s closest match is Dan Oturu, at 83%. Most alike in disruption and rebounding. Furthest apart on passing, where Lessort sits in the 44th percentile and Oturu in the 9th. Two centres who protect the rim almost identically, and one of them passes.
You decide what “alike” means. Match on a single trait, lock it to the same position, or switch on Sleepers and only players aged 23 and under come back.
Who Plays Like is a Premium tool. We are not going to be coy about it. This is the kind of thing the paid tier exists to pay for.
Rounds 8 and 9: eight teams, one win apart
Real Madrid have won six in a row. Seven clubs went 2-0 in the double week. From second to ninth, the table is now separated by a single win.
SPONSOR
Real Madrid were 0-3. They have won five in a row.
Nobody else in the EuroLeague has won their last five. What changed is visible in three numbers, and it started at the three-point line.
We published this after the fifth win. It is six now.
Fall deeper into the game.
